Bakersfield, CA

Sue Halford, born on May 19, 1945, in Wasco to Paul and Raymoth Garretson, passed away at home on March 7, 2026, after a long illness. Surrounded by her family, who took turns holding her hands, she left behind a life marked by quiet strength, creativity, and deep devotion to those she loved. Raised in Bakersfield and a graduate of North High School, Sue was brought up in the Church of Christ and spent many years as an office manager for State Farm, often working alongside her daughter Shelly. Later in her career, she worked with her daughter Kerin at Heart and Body Scan.

Sue had a remarkable talent for crafts and could master almost anything she tried. She particularly loved sewing, creating beautiful coasters, pot holders, and intricate dolls. A gifted cook and dedicated baker, she was known for her exceptional cakes, pies, and cookies, with her Kahlua cake becoming the stuff of family legend. She and her husband Kenny shared a love of travel, cherishing trips to Alaska, China, and Puerto Rico. They also enjoyed RV trips to Pismo and exploring antique stores together. Sue had a lifelong passion for antiques and, in her later years, became an enthusiastic Dodger fan.

Above all, Sue found joy in gardening, a love she passed on to her children. Her family will remember her for her many skills, her compassion for those less fortunate, the beautiful gardens she created wherever she lived, and her steadfast love for her family. She was predeceased by her parents and her sister Teresa Skinner (Danny). She is survived by her husband Kenny Halford, her son Kevin Barton (Tammy), her daughters Kerin Workman (Bill) and Shelly Fraze (Ron), her brothers Bill Garretson (Bryan) and John Garretson, her mother-in-law Una Halford, several stepchildren, nieces and nephews, and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren whom she cherished deeply.
