A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in What Cheer. Visitation with the family will be held Tuesday, March 10, 2026, from 5 – 8 pm. Burial will be in the Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.Stuart Kevin Matteson, Sr. was born September 23, 1963 in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Bert and Clara Applebee Matteson. He was a 1983 graduate of BGM High School. Over the years he has lived in Malcom, Grinnell and for the past thirty-five years in What Cheer. Early in life Kevin developed a strong work ethic. He worked twenty-three years for Manatt's and was always busy helping others do whatever needed done. He was married to Cristina Jones in 1987, to this union came two sons, Kevin and Cody Matteson. Then in 1990 he married Marguette Wear and the couple had two daughters, Leah and Amanda Matteson. Kevin took pride in being a father and understood the importance of leading his family with grace and forgiveness. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, racing and above all spending his free time with his family. Kevin also valued the companionship of several dogs throughout his entire life.Above all else, he loved his family unconditionally. He was the kind of man his family relied on to overcome challenges in life. Kevin was a proud grandpa who treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren, watching them grow through the years. The love he gave will live on in their hearts forever. When you sit by the still water, feeling the warm breeze, cast a line from the boat at the river, or walk quietly through the timber wearing orange, they will know he is with them. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Clara Matteson and a grandson, Oakley VanPatten.Kevin's legacy will be cherished by his children; Kevin (Kaybri) Matteson, Cody (Kayla Meester) Matteson, Leah (Cody) Van Patten and Amanda (Joe) Linder; his grandchildren: Otley, Octavia and Oaklynn VanPatten, London, Brooklyn and Jersey Linder, Arabella and Mia Matteson, Kadence Matteson, Cheyenne and Emberlee Meester, Cody and Zaylen Matteson; a brother, Bert Matteson; two sisters; Roma Neitzel and Brenda Wear; two former wives, Cristina Jones and Margie Wear.
