Steven R Martin

July 9, 1942 March 13, 2026

Evansville, IN

Steven R. Martin, born on July 9, 1942, in Evansville, Indiana, passed away on March 13, 2026. A proud graduate of North High School, he answered the call to serve his country in the United States Navy aboard the U.S.S. Worden DLG-18 during the Vietnam War. He remained deeply proud of his service and often shared stories from those years. After his military career, Steven continued his commitment to veterans as an active member of the VFW and the American Legion. He later worked as a dedicated member of the National Elevators Union until his retirement.

Family was the heart of Steven’s life. He was a loving father to Tracy Feagans, Mark Keeney and his wife Makiko, and the late Kevin Martin. He cherished his role as grandfather to Amity Winter and her husband Eric Winter, Aryn Keeney, Ryan Keeney, and Dylan Keeney, and was affectionately known as Papa Steve to Layla and Landon Winter. He is also survived by his sister Penny Weightman and her husband Doug, as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Velma Martin, and his sister Sharon Cullison.

Steven found joy in life’s simpler pleasures. He could often be found sitting on his front porch with a cup of coffee, and he loved hunting, fishing, and attending gun shows as an avid enthusiast. His straightforward “tell it like it is” nature, strong work ethic, and generous heart left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
