Steven Jeffres Burnidge, of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away at his home on March 9, 2026. Born in Pittsburg on January 22, 1953, Steve held a deep affection for the town that remained his lifelong home.
He graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1971, where he played on Coach Larry Garman’s Purple Dragons starting offensive line. In 1975, he earned a degree in Business Administration from Pittsburg State University and became a devoted member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Steve was a curious and lifelong learner who embraced new technology early, becoming an enthusiastic adopter of IBM’s first home computers in the 1980s and spending many hours experimenting with computer systems. Those who knew him will remember his playful spirit, his love of pranks, and the laughter he brought to family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Milford and Pauline Burnidge; his brother Keith; his sister Jan Burnidge of Joplin, Missouri; and his brother Gary Burnidge of Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Steve is survived by his daughter, Cara Burnidge of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and her daughter; his sister, Pam Kolath of Pittsburg, Kansas; and many nieces and nephews.
