Plevna, KS

Steven Jack Roberts Sr., 81, of Plevna, Kansas, passed away at his home on March 9, 2026. Born on February 5, 1945, in Wellington, Kansas, he was the son of L.J. and Florance (Blake) Roberts Sr.

Steve attended Fairfield High School, where he met his high school sweetheart, Christine C. Koons. They married on February 17, 1963, in Plevna and shared 63 devoted years together. A dedicated provider for his wife and three children, he worked in the oil fields, at Cessna, and later at Northern Natural Gas in Alden, Kansas. He and Christine lived in Alden for ten years before returning to her family farm, where they farmed and ran a custom harvesting business. Steve later worked as a school custodian and at Doskocil/Tyson Foods before retiring.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Steve found deep faith while hunting with his pastor and carried a quiet, serving spirit throughout his life. He enjoyed gardening, watching his children participate in sports and church activities, and in retirement, he cherished visits with family, caring for his lawn and those of his neighbors, and watching westerns. He was happiest when friends and family stopped by to visit.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Pinky Roberts and Greg Roberts; in-laws Gene and Ruth Koons, Virginia Koons; sisters-in-law Argie Staples and Ronna Roberts; and brother-in-law C.J. Griffiths.

Steve is survived by his loving wife, Christine; children Cherie and Lloyd Cade of Packwood, Washington, Brenda and Tom O’Neal of Enterprise, Alabama, and Steve and Laraine Roberts Jr. of Oaxaca, Mexico; grandchildren Whitney and Patrick Hays of Austin, Texas, Carson Cade of Denver, Colorado, Taylor Cade of Grants Pass, Oregon, Jordan and Taylor O’Neal of Junction City, Kansas, Riley and Shannon O’Neal of Sanford, Florida, Lauren and Elijah Jackson of Hutchinson, Kansas, Kristen Roberts of Dixon, California, Jessica and Hunter Podolan of Wichita, Kansas, Aurora and Andrew Pruitt of Hutchinson, Kansas, and Blake Roberts of Wichita, Kansas; great-grandchildren Jojo, Rocky, and Haisley; sister Barbara and David Peck of Aberdeen, South Dakota; sisters-in-law Judy Roberts of South Hutchinson and LaRee Roberts of Abbyville, Kansas; and brother-in-law Mark Staples of Cambridge, Massachusetts.
