Steven D. Slaight, age 78, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, in Jones, Oklahoma. Born on May 2, 1947, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, Steve carried a deep and abiding love for his hometown throughout his life. He graduated from Muskogee Central High School in 1965 as a proud Rougher and later earned a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Oklahoma State University, remaining a loyal Cowboy and devoted fan for the rest of his days.

Steve owned and operated American Car Rental in Muskogee, serving his community with dedication before continuing his career with the Veterans Affairs, where he eventually retired. He possessed a natural gift for performing and found great joy in the theater. He also cherished the freedom and camaraderie of riding motorcycles. Above all, Steve treasured time spent with family and friends, sharing stories, laughter, and cherished “remember when” moments. His quick wit and love of a good joke brought warmth and life to every gathering.

A man of deep faith, Steve loved Jesus and lived his beliefs openly. He spent many hours sharing the Word and offering encouragement at local facilities. His favorite hymn, “It Is Well With My Soul,” and his cherished scripture, Philippians 4:8, reflected the quiet confidence and grace with which he approached life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Ben Slaight and Gloria Vaught Slaight, and his beloved grandson, Jaxon Slaight. Steve is survived by his children, Jennifer Starcevich Clark of Oklahoma City, Andra Munoz of Owasso, Tyler Slaight of Tulsa, and Maggie VanDaley of Muskogee; his sister, Glenna Slaight of Tulsa; and his cherished grandchildren, Max, Brooks, Tripp, and Champ Munoz, Joey and August Slaight, Briar VanDaley, Parker John Easton, and Mia Easton. He also leaves behind Randa Smith Slaight, Cheryl Martin, and many extended family members and dear friends who will miss him greatly.

Steve will be remembered for his strong faith, his humor, his storytelling, and the way he made every room feel warmer and more alive. His love for family, friends, and his Lord leaves a lasting and beautiful legacy.
