Mata, age 72, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away on March 2, 2026. Steve was born to Steve Garcia Mata and Shirley Janice Delong (Wilson).Growing up, he loved his sisters dearly and shared a close bond with them that remained important throughout his life. He graduated from Kingston High School in 1971 and went on to build a life centered around family, hard work, and the things he enjoyed most.Later in life, Steve married Sandra Herring, and together they had three sons. Being a father was something Steve took great pride in, and he loved his boys deeply. Over the years, his family continued to grow, and becoming a grandfather to his grandchildren brought him great joy. Steve enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved motorcycles, watching NASCAR, and spending time outdoors. Fishing and camping were some of his favorite ways to relax, and he appreciated the peace that came from being out in nature. Whether it was a ride o n a motorcycle, a race on TV, or time spent outdoors, those moments were some of the ones he treasured most. Steve is preceded in death by his parents, Steve Garcia Mata and Shirley Janice Delong (Wilson).He is survived by his sisters, Jan Johnston, Steffani Allen, and Toni Mata; his sons, Jesse Mata, Bryan Mata, and Steven Mata; and his grandchildren who will continue to carry his memory forward. Steve will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His presence, stories, and the memories he created with those who loved him will never be forgotten.
