June 17, 1950— March 10, 2026
Jefferson City, MO
Stephen Lee “Steve” Price, Sr., age 75, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away on March 10, 2026, at University Hospital in Columbia, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on June 17, 1950, in Columbia to Cecil and Ruth Ellen Perkins Price, Steve graduated from Hickman High School in 1968, where he sang in a barbershop quartet and met the love of his life, Beverly Beeson. They married in 1972 in Columbia and shared a devoted partnership that spanned more than five decades. Steve earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Missouri in 1973 and later received an MBA in Military Management in 2005, graduating Magna Cum Laude. He worked his way through school at Central Office Supply and by painting dorms in the summers.
Steve proudly served 35 years in the United States Army and Missouri Army National Guard, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel. He became a CPA while employed with the Missouri Auditor’s Office and went on to serve as Staff Director for the Missouri House Appropriations Committee for many years. After 25 years in state government, he continued his service as a civilian auditor for the Missouri Army National Guard before retiring a third time. Deeply committed to his community, Steve volunteered as treasurer for numerous organizations, including the Sheltered Workshop, Oasis United Church of Christ, Capital Region Foundation and Hospital Boards, the YMCA, Multipli Credit Union, NARFE, the Cole County Democratic Committee, MOSERS, the American Legion, and the Guard Retiree Association. A longtime supporter of the American Red Cross, he donated more than 18 gallons of blood.
Steve found joy in sports, refereeing high school volleyball for nearly 20 years and holding season tickets to University of Missouri games with his friend Art for 50 years. Music remained a lifelong passion; he sang in barbershop quartets and choruses and performed with the Oasis Church Choir at Carnegie Hall in 2022. He also enjoyed playing bridge and exploring genealogy. Above all, Steve cherished his family. He supported his children with unwavering presence, attending Tricia’s dance and ice-skating recitals, coaching Steve Jr. in soccer and baseball, and devoting many hours to Boy Scouts. When his son wanted to play volleyball, Steve helped establish a traveling boys’ team, handling fundraising, coaching, and organization. He and Bev created many cherished memories traveling together, including a Mediterranean cruise with friends in 2019 and a 50th anniversary trip with their children and grandchildren to Cape San Blas, Florida.
He is survived by his loving wife, Bev; children Tricia Price (Jonathon Schultz) of Columbia and Dr. Stephen Price, Jr. (Tamara Greer) of Warrensburg; grandchildren Aedan Price, Finnean Price, and Norah Price Schultz; sisters Nanci Price of Columbia and Lynne Lindner of O’Fallon; sister-in-law Patty Beeson of Columbia; “adopted granddaughter” Corrin Lepper of Kansas City; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and parents-in-law.
