April 29, 1951— March 10, 2026
Royal Oak, MI
Steve Joseph Kruso passed away on March 10, 2026, at the age of 74, surrounded by those he loved most. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Steve cherished every moment spent with his family. He delighted in making his grandchildren laugh with silly faces and playful antics like stealing their snacks. He looked forward to football Sundays at his son Alex’s home, where he and Alex would discuss the game and simply enjoy each other’s company. Steve also made frequent trips to California to visit his daughter Megan and her family, celebrating birthdays and milestones while sharing in their lives.
Steve had a remarkable gift for connecting with people. Friendly and outgoing, he could strike up a conversation with anyone, often leaving strangers feeling as though they had made a new friend. He listened attentively, expressed genuine gratitude, and shared laughter easily. His generosity and thoughtfulness were evident in small, consistent acts—greeting friends who helped around the house with coffee and breakfast, and personally thanking every nurse and doctor after hospital visits with heartfelt appreciation.
Steve spent most of his career as a CT technologist at Beaumont Hospital, where he met his wife, Linda, after a mistaken phone call led him to the right person. They shared 53 loving years together. The hospital also became the place where he formed many of his closest lifelong friendships, bonds he maintained long after retirement. He treasured his time on the golf course, his connections with coworkers who became like family, and the deepening relationships with his brothers as they grew older.
Steve is survived by his wife, Linda Kruso; his daughter Megan Backer and her husband Aaron of Oakland, California, and their children Oren and Lily; his son Alex Kruso and his wife Lauren of Bloomfield Township, Michigan, and their children Steven and Claire; and his brothers Mark Kruso and Dave Kruso. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lillian and Steve Kruso, and his brother Bruce Kruso.
