June 23, 1959— March 16, 2026
Lawrenceville, VA
Steve Allen Newman, 66, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2026. He was predeceased by his parents, Marvin Newman and Alyne Davis Newman Fleshood, and his sister, Joan Newman Bowen. He is survived by his stepbrothers, David and Paul Fleshood, and their families. He also is survived by Newman and Davis cousins.
Steve was a lifelong resident of Brunswick County. He loved Brunswick and his farm and never wanted to live anywhere else. He took great pride in being a cattle farmer and loved every aspect of his farm life. He kept a mental history of his cow herd, named each one, and could tell you their lineage. His ultimate expression of love for family members was to name a cow after them. His family received that expression of love with gratitude and considered it an honor. Through the ups and downs of life, Steve always was humble and rarely complained. He was a quiet and gentle man and he remained faithful to the life and those he loved for all of his 66 years.
Steve’s life will be celebrated with a gathering of family and friends at 2 PM on Saturday, March 21, 2026 at Williams Funeral Home, 410 Windsor Avenue, Lawrenceville, VA. Everyone is invited to share their fond memories of Steve. Immediately following the gathering, he will be buried on his farm. There will be no graveside service but all who want to go to graveside are welcome to do so. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Brunswick County Animal Shelter, 594 Planters Road, Lawrenceville VA 23868.
