Stephen Rouse

June 19, 1978 March 14, 2026

Hemingway, SC

Stephen Paul Rouse, 47, of Hemingway, South Carolina, passed away on March 14, 2026, at MUSC Health Black River after a brief illness. Born on June 19, 1978, in Marion, South Carolina, to Paul and Margaret Lane Rouse, Stephen grew up in Dillon and was a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and friend who was well-liked and respected by all who knew him.

After graduating from Dillon High School, he attended Florence-Darlington Technical College, where he earned an Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice. For more than twenty years, Stephen worked as a truck driver for H&S Oil Company. In his spare time, he was a skilled flooring contractor who took great pride in his craftsmanship.

Stephen found deep joy in hunting and fishing, and he was a proud member of the Winyah Bass Masters fishing club. He especially cherished riding motorcycles with his wife of twenty years, Jewell Altman Rouse, yet nothing meant more to him than spending time with his three daughters. A man of strong faith, he was an active member of Johnsonville Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he taught Sunday School and worked with the youth group for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Jewell; his parents, Paul and Margaret Rouse; his daughters, Katelyn, Rosalyn, and Stevie Rouse; his brother, Dwayne Rouse; his father- and mother-in-law, Michael and Ann Altman; and his brother- and sister-in-law, Mark and Jessica Altman, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
