Stephen Grier

August 25, 1954 March 5, 2026

Wilmington, DE

Stephen Grier, affectionately known as Creature, passed away on March 5, 2026. A strong and resilient man, he courageously battled and defeated cancer twice. Known for his strength, kindness, and big heart, Stephen gave freely to others without expecting anything in return. He retired from the VA hospital after 42 years of dedicated service and was deeply proud of his time in the Army, often sharing stories from his days stationed in Hawaii.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Grier, and his son, Michael Grier. Stephen is survived by his daughter, Melissa, and her spouse, Eddie Pacheco; his nephew Rob Stewart and his wife Sue, whom he treated as a son; his beloved grandchildren, Chase Pacheco, Julianna Grier, Maria Grier, Eddie Pacheco Jr., Ben Pacheco, and Zach Pacheco, who brought him immense joy and pride; his siblings Karen Grier, John Grier and his wife Marsha, Kathy Garrett and her husband Bob, Kenny Grier and his wife Kathleen, and Keith Grier and his wife Ann; as well as many other nieces and nephews.

Stephen especially cherished living with his grandson Chase and watching him grow. He loved spending time with all his grandchildren, who meant the world to him. A passionate sports enthusiast, he coached youth baseball, umpired, and volunteered with high school football teams, most recently at Woodbridge alongside Head Coach Marvin Dooley, with whom he would travel anywhere to support the team.

He will be remembered as a kind-hearted man who loved his family deeply and always meant well. His memory will live on in the many lives he touched, and he will be greatly missed every day.
