His loving Heavenly Father took him home to be with so many other family members who have gone before him. Steve is survived by his loving wife Marcia G. Fagerburg, daughter Carrie Joy (Scott) Wadding, son Brian P.J. Fagerburg, daughter Kindra Noel Wisneiwski, and grandchildren Henry Lincoln Wadding and Everly and Elliette Wisneiwski, all of Des Moines, Iowa. Survivors also include his brother Mark D. Fagerburg of Columbus, Wisconsin, sister-in-law Susan Fagerburg, sister Pamela Jo Fagerburg of Green Lake, Wisconsin, niece Taylor and nephew Graham. Steve was preceded in death by his parents Frank Phillip Fagerburg and Dorothy Elaine (Williams) Fagerburg as well as his older brother Frank L. Fagerburg.Steve was born April 28, 1953, in Vallejo, California. He graduated from Green Lake High School in 1971. He and Marcia McNutt were married in 1975. Steve attended Judson University in Elgin, Illinois and graduated in 1980 with degrees in Christian Religion and Philosophy. Steve and Marcia then moved to Kansas City, Kansas to study for Christian Ministry, earning a Master of Divinity degree from Central Baptist Seminary. He and his family served six churches over a period of 32 years: First Baptist Church in North Platte, Nebraska; First Baptist Church in Kenosha, Wisconsin; Westover Baptist Church in Des Moines, Iowa; First Baptist Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa; First Baptist Church in Salina, Kansas; and First Baptist Church in Greendale, Indiana.Steve served as chaplain to the Iowa State Patrol and gave security to many churches during lawless and difficult times in this world. Steve had a strong tie to a young man in Ethiopia who he and Marcia sponsored through Compassion International. Through letter-writing, love and sharing the Word of God, this young man will soon be a doctor in Ethiopia. Steve and Marcia also volunteered, donated to and supported central Iowa's homeless resource center, Joppa, based in Des Moines.He had many interests including guitar playing, trout fishing, and watching sports.Steve retired from pastoral ministry and went to work for Schneider International Trucking in Des Moines. His love for people continued while driving and interacting with those around him.Steve loved "the least of these." He was a true servant of God. Steve had an unsurpassed faith in Jesus Christ and he touched so many lives with his love for God and his great sense of humor. He will be greatly missed.A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Des Moines Vinyard Church, 2332 Euclid Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa.
