January 1, 1927— March 8, 2026
Fort Pierce, FL
Stephen Colas began his life’s journey on January 7, 1927, in Jacmel, Haiti, born to the late Seplimice Colas and Marcelia Ambroise. As a young man he mastered the craft of shoemaking and, through dedication and hard work, opened his own shoe store, proudly serving his community. In 1985 he courageously left Haiti for New York in search of new opportunities. After five years there, he settled in Fort Pierce, Florida, where he spent the rest of his days.
Stephen was remembered for his calm and gentle nature. He moved through life at his own unhurried pace, often walking with his arms crossed behind his back as though time held no urgency. He cherished community and held a special affection for the people of La Gonâve, who in turn embraced him so warmly that many mistook him for a native of the island.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Seplimice Colas and Marcelia Ambroise, and his son, Jean Colas. Stephen leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved stepdaughter Micheline Roy, stepson Max Pillet, dear friend Yvon Bureau, Emanuel Bureau, Falenda Bureau, Nicole Bonheur, the Nazarene Church family, and many extended family members and friends whose lives were touched by his quiet presence. He passed peacefully on March 8, 2026.
