Stephanie Lynn McCurdy
September 5, 1972— March 6, 2026
Rexburg, ID
Stephanie Lynn McCurdy, 53, of Rexburg, Idaho, passed away on March 6, 2026, at home surrounded by those she loved.
Born on September 5, 1972, in Logan, Utah, to Sharlene McCraken Smith and Jack Clayton, Steph was raised in a loving home by Sharlene and Ronnie Smith, whom she adored. From a young age she showed a natural gift for organization, delighting in setting up her own pretend store and carefully tending to every detail as she served her imaginary customers. That early passion stayed with her throughout her life.
She graduated from Hagerman High School in 1990 and earned an Associate Degree in Office Education from Ricks College. In the summer of 1993 she met Scott McCurdy in Twin Falls, Idaho. A few months later they were sealed for time and all eternity in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together they built a large and loving family, blessed with five children whom Steph cherished deeply.
In 1997, at the age of twenty-four, Steph was diagnosed with stage four colon cancer. She faced the disease with remarkable courage, enduring chemotherapy, radiation, surgeries, and every available treatment. After five years of determined fighting she entered remission, though the effects of treatment remained with her. In 2018 the cancer returned. She underwent an eighteen-hour surgery, followed by weeks in the hospital and six months of recovery at home. Even as the disease continued to spread, Steph never stopped fighting. She pursued every option with unwavering strength and resilience that inspired everyone who knew her.
Steph found her greatest joy in loving and serving others. She rarely missed a dance performance, football game, swim meet, or track event, always cheering loudly from the stands for her children. She loved working in her yard and garden, camping at Alturas Lake, playing board and card games, and enthusiastically supporting her nieces and nephews. A devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served faithfully in many callings and treasured her time as a temple worker in the Rexburg Idaho Temple, often going straight from medical treatments to serve there. Above all, she delighted in being a grandmother to her three grandchildren, spoiling them with love and attention.
She is survived by her husband Scott McCurdy; her daughter Ashtyn (Zach) Ashworth; her sons Parker, Conner, Bridger, and Hunter McCurdy; and her three grandchildren. She is also survived by her parents Ronnie and Sharlene Smith; her siblings Carissa Smith, Emily (Spencer) Webb, Troy (Kallee) Smith, Corrine (Ron) Saunders, Quinn (Miranda) Smith, Shelli (Destry) Simpson, Julie (Bryce) Earl, Jordon (Laramie) Smith, and Becca (Tanner) Holmes; and many other family members who loved her deeply.
