Murrells Inlet, SC

Stelman Theodore “Ted” King Jr. was born in Hagerstown, Maryland, on December 3, 1945, and passed away on February 24, 2026, at the age of 80. Throughout his life, Ted touched countless people with his kindness, generosity, humor, artistic video work, and remarkable vocal talent. He began singing at an early age and became widely known for his dynamic showmanship as the lead singer of the band The Morticians, whose performances remain legendary. He continued singing in numerous bands, churches, and social groups for the rest of his life.

After graduating from North Hagerstown High School in 1963, Ted worked as a draftsman at the M.P. Moller Pipe Organ Company, where he helped design beautiful pipe organs still in use in churches throughout Maryland and Pennsylvania. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970, becoming a skilled engineer. Upon returning home, he joined Bechtel Corporation, where he engineered piping systems for nuclear power plants. Later, he founded his own company, King Video Productions, skillfully blending his drafting, engineering, and musical abilities. He was beloved for the heartfelt, meticulously crafted wedding and event videos he created with personal care and artistic flair until his retirement.

Ted was a charming, witty, and good-looking man whose larger-than-life personality, deep love for family and friends, and passionate spirit left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He was a devoted husband and father, a faithful servant of God and country, an avid golfer, and a dedicated horror movie enthusiast. He also cherished the many beloved pets that shared his life.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judith Ann Graff King; his sons, Jay Austin King and his wife Dora, and Alex Jerome King and his significant other Christina Cubel; his niece, Teresa Reed Barron; his longtime best friend and former brother-in-law, Earl Harper Conrad; and his “adopted by heart” children, Steve “Skip” and Dawn Ward, along with their children Morgan, Aria, Bella, and Killian Ward. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stelman Theodore King Sr. and Hilma Smith King, his sister Lois King Reed, her husband Don Reed, and their children Rick Reed and Cindy Reed Fisher.
