Stanley Satz ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by O'ahu Mortuary on Mar. 17, 2026.Stanley L. Satz (82) passed away at home on Saturday, March 14, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Leah and Murray Satz, Stan attended Tufts University, received his Master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania, and in 1972 his PhD from Kent State University where he met his future wife, Marie. They were inseparable and married 56 years after a 3-month whirlwind romance.Settling in New Bern, North Carolina, Stan was an instructor and head of the Humanities Department at Craven Community College. Stan served as president of his synagogue, Temple B'nai Sholem, and was an entertaining and scholarly lay leader there.Stan is survived by his younger brother, faithful cousin, two loving children Erica and Brian, 15 grandchildren and 2 hanai grandchildren, who he has entertained with endless stories of his fictional alter ego, Schlemo: a snake who slithers through many outrageous misadventures. He was a true intellectual, passionate about classical music, pastrami, hot showers, and great literature. He expected excellence in himself and would find it important to correct subject/verb agreement errors found in Newsweek magazine or instructional material at doctor's offices. He leaves a legacy of the art of a well placed "pun" and silly humor, abiding integrity, true kindness, endless hours picking up litter, an unwavering service to others, and a warrior's spirit of perseverance. To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
