Arlene Legere ObituaryObituary published on Legacy.com by Slattery Funeral Home - Marlborough on Mar. 4, 2026.Sr. Arlene Legere was from a closely-knit Catholic family in Mexico, Maine. She was the daughter of the late Alfred and Olive (Paquette) Legere and the sister of the late Janet (Legere) Bean. Arlene had a happy childhood and attended the parish school, St. Therese, with the Sisters of St. Chretienne as her teachers. For her high school years, already sensing a call from the Lord, Arlene went to St. Chretienne Academy in Salem, MA in the Juniorate program. After graduating, she entered the community's Novitiate in Giffard, Quebec. She pronounced her first Vows on August 15, 1952.Sr. Arlene had a long teaching ministry spanning 50 years. She taught in parish schools in Salem and Pawtucket RI, with several years at the Academy in Salem where she taught in elementary and high school. At the closing of the Academy in 1972, Arlene went to Lewiston ME where she taught for 32 years, first at St. Dominic Regional High and later at Holy Cross Junior High. Her students appreciated her, and several remained in contact even until the present. During her years in Lewiston, Arlene lived in an inter-congregational setting-9 Sisters from 5 different religious orders. She found this to be very enriching. In 2004, Sr. Arlene moved to the Sisters' retirement community in Marlboro. She found a new ministry doing volunteer work at Immaculate Conception Junior High three days a week. Here too, she made some long-lasting friendships. In these last 5 years, now in residence at Alliance Health at Marie Esther, Arlene spent her time praying, reading and living a quiet life. Her health was declining, and following a brief illness, she offered her life to the Lord who brought her home to Heaven on February 28.Sr. Arlene will be dearly missed by her religious Sisters, her niece Margaret (John) Perry, and a grandnephew, Christopher, and a grandniece, Kathryn.A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 10:30AM at the Sisters' residence at 720 Boston Post Road East in Marlborough, MA 01752. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 10:30AM.To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
