January 9, 1930— March 13, 2026
Littleton, MA
Sophia T. Rosinski, 96, of Littleton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 13, 2026. Born on January 9, 1930, in Boonville, New York, on the family farm on Potato Hill Road at the start of the Great Depression, she was the daughter of Blaze and Margaret Kowalik, Polish immigrants who arrived at Ellis Island in 1909. The youngest of nine children, Sophia grew up alongside brothers Walter (Bill), Joseph, and Zygmunt, and sisters Mary, Anna, Lena, Evelyn, and Helen.
Guided throughout her life by a deep Catholic faith, Sophia attended secretarial school in New York City and worked in Utica, New York. There she met Alfred Rosinski at Kitlas Dance Hall, and the two married on May 21, 1955. They made their first home in New York Mills, New York, where Alfred worked at Rome Air Force Base. In 1961, the family—including young son Gregory and daughter Cindy—relocated to Bedford, Massachusetts, following Alfred’s transfer to Hanscom Air Force Base. Sons Mark and Stephen were born there, completing their family of six.
Sophia and Al cherished family camping trips, especially to York Beach and Cape Neddick, Maine, where they continued to enjoy their trailer well into their seventies. Though not a swimmer, Sophia loved the ocean, the coastal beauty, and the simple pleasures of fresh lobster and clams. She often sent the children to dig clams so she could prepare her cherished clam chowder. An excellent cook of traditional Polish dishes and a talented baker, she took great joy in gathering friends and family around her table. Later in life, she and Al returned to Boonville, New York, with son Stephen. Avid Red Sox fans, they delighted in attending spring training games while wintering in Florida.
Sophia is survived by her eldest son Gregory Rosinski; her daughter Cindy Irwin and husband David Irwin; her son Stephen Rosinski and wife Heidi; her daughter-in-law Deborah Rosinski; her sister Helen Garbarino; and her special niece Theresa McGibbon and husband Thomas McGibbon. She is also survived by her grandchildren Melissa Irwin, Daniel Irwin and wife Sonal Said, Laura Sherman and husband Andrew Sherman, Jillian Hausmann and husband Jeff Hausmann, and Neil Rosinski, along with many beloved great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Alfred, her son Mark Rosinski, her parents, and many siblings. Sophia will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Al in Boonville, New York.
