Sophia Ewellvet Walker

Sophia Ewellvet Gant Walker, a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, great-aunt, niece, and friend, was born on July 6, 1969, in Shelbyville, Tennessee, to Virginia McMahon Gant and Randy E. Simpson. She passed away on March 4, 2026.

Sophia graduated from Shelbyville Central High School in 1988. She had a radiant presence that could brighten any room, and her warm smile and courageous laughter brought joy to everyone around her. With a heart of pure gold, she welcomed all to her table.

In 2003, Sophia married James Walker. She worked for Aramark and in the restaurant industry, serving at several local establishments including KFC, Hardee’s, Pizza Hut, Burger King, and Angie’s Catering. For the past five years, she was employed at Popeyes.

She is survived by her father, Randy E. Simpson; brothers Carter (Rebecca) Gant, Randal Trice, and Gary Trice; sisters Delita (Ajani) Akil, Shelia Bailey, Iris Gant, Lori Brown, Melinda Bell, and Ashley Simpson; stepdaughters Kavosia Walker, Aaliyah Freeman, and Dream Branch; step-granddaughters Kay’Liana Ruiz and Nahlea Fae; aunts Emma, Ella Ray, Cora, Elsie, Sandra, Pamela, Cheryl, Melody, and Mechelle; uncle Elwood; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and friends, including her dear friend Roy Brown. Sophia was preceded in death by her mother, Virginia Jane McMahon Martin, and her brother, Frank Gant.
