Sondra Lee Bortle, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, was born on September 18, 1943, in Lansing, Michigan, to Laurence and Fern (Warner) Jean. She passed away on March 11, 2026, in Hale, Michigan. Sondra devoted her life to caring for her family and took great joy in raising her four children, whom she cherished deeply.
She took special pride in her educational journey, particularly in returning later in life to earn her GED. An active member of Zion Bible Church in Prescott, Michigan, Sondra found lasting community and joy there. In her free time, she enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, sewing, reading, and bird watching. She was also involved with the Pioneer Power tractor club in West Branch. Sondra loved to travel, especially taking trips with her husband to the casino, and she remained a devoted fan of Elvis Presley throughout her life.
She is survived by her daughters Connie Bortle of Hale, Michigan, and Rebecca Goward of Hale, Michigan; her son Gary (Karen) Bortle of Gillette, Wyoming; and her daughter Cheryl (Larry) Miles of Chassell, Michigan. Her legacy continues through her ten grandchildren—Michael Beasley, Joshua (Sara) VanWormer, Nolan (Angela) Miles, Jenna VanWormer, Chelsea (Joe) Klobucher, Tasha Muchenthler, Shayne Miles, Lane Bortle, Casey Bortle, and Cole Bortle—and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Sue Brownfield of Mason, Michigan.
Sondra was predeceased by her husband, Clifford Bortle; her parents, Laurence and Fern (Warner) Jean; and her sisters, Sheila Schagel and Diane Roberts. She will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family.
