Sondra (Shippert) Gentry

Sondra (Shippert) Gentry, age 54, of Freeport, Illinois, passed away on March 9, 2026. She was born on January 27, 1972, to parents David (Estelle) Shippert and Karen (Jeff Asher) Ogburn.

Sondra was a compassionate soul whose greatest passion was caring for others. She worked as a respiratory therapist, helping patients breathe while also taking on additional jobs to support those in need. The mental focus, drive, and commitment she brought to her frontline work were admirable, yet it was her infectious smile, joyful spirit, and strong will that made her a true ray of light in the lives of everyone around her.

She is lovingly remembered by her parents, stepsister Michelle Ditsworth, treasured nieces and nephews, countless friends, her FHN Hospital family, special friends Mark and Becky, and her beloved dog Maizie. She was preceded in death by her stepsister Angela Stephenitch and her brother Robert Shippert.

Sondra was a powerful presence whose kindness touched so many, and she will be deeply missed. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
