Sister M. Andrew (Jeannette) Beckman

Sister M. Andrew (Jeannette) Beckman

July 8, 1934 March 11, 2026

Mishawaka, IN

Sister M. Andrew, born Jeannette Beckman on July 8, 1934, in Gary, Indiana, to George and Thelma (Ray) Beckman, passed away on March 11, 2026, at Our Lady of Angels Convent in Mishawaka, Indiana.

She entered the community on September 8, 1952, and was invested as a novice on August 12, 1953, receiving the name Sister M. Andrew. After teaching in elementary schools in Louisiana, Indiana, and Illinois for eleven years, she served for eight years at Sacred Heart Convent in the Philippines in domestic services. Upon returning to the United States in 1974, she was assigned to St. Francis Convent in Mishawaka, where for twenty-four years she faithfully served in the chapel, laundry, housekeeping, sewing room, refectory, as chauffeur, and as convent vicar from 2004 to 2009. She later served at Our Lady of Angels Convent for eighteen years as housekeeping supervisor. Throughout her religious life, she approached every task with kindness, humility, and a delightful sense of humor, always preferring to serve her Sisters quietly and out of the limelight.

Sister M. Andrew found joy in simple projects such as cultivating evergreen tree starts, which she planted along the property to create a cherished windbreak for the priests’ residence. She also practiced quill art, skillfully transforming narrow strips of paper into delicate flowers, animals, and figurines. A gentle soul, she nursed countless injured birds back to health and remained devoted to Eucharistic Adoration in her later years after retiring to Our Lady of Angels Convent in 2016.

She is survived by her brothers Tom and Charles and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings John, George, Arthur, Richard, Ann, Helen, and Mary. Her seventy-two years of faithful dedication to her vocation remain an inspiration to all who knew her.
