Shirley Schneider ObituaryVisit the Greenwood Funeral Home website to view the full obituary.Shirley Raftery Schneider, age 96, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, in New Orleans, surrounded by her loving family.Born on September 27, 1929, in New Orleans, Shirley was the beloved daughter of Charles R. Raftery Sr. and Ethel LeBlanc Raftery. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Charles R. Raftery Jr.Shirley was a proud graduate of Immaculate Conception High School and attended Soulé Business College. She went on to co-own Raftery Hardware in the Lakeview neighborhood with her late husband, Paul, dedicating many years to serving her community before retiring.Throughout her life, Shirley was deeply engaged in the communities she loved most. She was an avid dancer and a devoted member of the Les Marionettes Carnival Organization, where she was involved for decades and served as President, a role she held with pride and enthusiasm. She proudly served as Commissioner-in-Charge at her voting precinct into her late 80s and was also a faithful member of St. Dominic Parish, where she actively participated in the Rosarian Group and the St. Dominic Altar Society, remaining engaged in her faith throughout her life.Shirley loved life and embraced it fully. Above all, she cherished her family - especially her three grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She was also joyfully anticipating the arrival of another great-grandchild, expected soon by Dalton and Katie.She is survived by her son, Paul J. Schneider Jr. (Judy); her daughter, Paulette S. D'Aunoy (Donald Sr.); her grandchildren, Donald G. D'Aunoy Jr. (Jessica), Elizabeth D. Rodrigue (Ricky), and Dalton Beau D'Aunoy (Katie); and her great-grandchildren, Wesley and Arden Rodrigue.Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Greenwood Funeral Home, 5200 Canal Blvd. New Orleans, LA, followed by a Mass at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at Greenwood Cemetery.Shirley will be remembered for her warmth, vibrant spirit, leadership, and deep devotion to her family, faith, and community.
