She was born on May 22, 1943, in Williamsburg, Virginia, to the late Mary Lee New (Slater) and Henley New. A lifelong resident of Virginia, Shirley spent her years surrounded by he loving family.Shirley dedicated many years of service as a switchboard operator at Eastern State Hospital before retiring. She was known for her warm personality, quick wit, and the genuine kindness she extended to everyone she met.She had a love for life's simple pleasures, especially playing slots and shopping, hobbies that brought her much joy over the years.Shirley was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Malcolm Parnell, and her son, Malcolm Parnell Jr.Survived by her children, Tony Parnell his wife Kathy, Donna Swann, her brothers, Robert Lee New and Ernest Kirby; and a large and loving family. She was a proud grandmother to Lauren Mathias, Taylor Parnell, Michael Swann, Brittany Swann, David Parnell, Melinda Parnell, and Dillion Parnell, as well as many cherished great-grandchildren. Shirley also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will miss her deeply.Shirley will be remembered for her loving spirit, her devotion to her family, and the laughter she brought into every room.
