Shirley Batterson

Shirley A. Batterson, 82, of Bettendorf, passed away on March 12, 2026, at Trinity in Rock Island, surrounded by her loving family after a brief illness.

Born on November 12, 1943, in St. Louis, Missouri, Shirley was the daughter of Maurice Lee and Ama Delta “Lucy” (Jackson) Lenox. She married the love of her life, Howard Batterson, in June 1967 in Rock Island. Together they worked side by side for many years at their family business, Business Systems, Inc., in Rock Island.

Shirley had a gift for knitting and crocheting, and she was known for her remarkable ability to organize everything around her. She held a deep affection for children and animals alike. Her warm and steady presence touched everyone who knew her.

She is survived by her husband, Howard; her children, Joyce Batterson of Bettendorf and Deren (Michelle) Batterson of Davenport; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; her sisters, Joann (Chuck) Barr of Sherman, Texas, and Regina (Wayne) Barnes of Kattawa, Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, many siblings, her daughters Noel Batterson Reynolds and Tera Batterson Schmelzer, and her mother- and father-in-law.
