Shirley Ann Westover

Shirley Ann Westover

Jacksonville, OR

Shirley Ann Westover, née Ohlson, passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on March 10, 2026, at Providence Hospital in Jacksonville, Oregon.

Born in Los Angeles, California, in 1934, Shirley married Edwin Westover at the age of 19. The couple settled in the San Gabriel Valley, where they raised their seven children. In 1974, the family moved to Big Bear Lake, California, completing the raising of their children and eventually retiring there. A devoted Catholic, Shirley volunteered at Saint Joseph’s Church in Big Bear, serving as president of the Legion of Mary and offering comfort to the infirm. She was an avid gardener whose yard was a source of great joy, filled with abundant flowers. Known for her tireless work ethic, she remained dedicated to her family throughout her life, facing challenges with quiet strength and deep faith. Her personal mantra, “God never gives us more than we can bear,” guided her through many difficulties.

In 2018, Shirley left her beloved Big Bear Valley to move to Southern Oregon to be closer to her daughter. She embraced new adventures, formed lasting friendships, and enjoyed the company of caring neighbors and good meals, for which she had a lifelong appreciation. She became a parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Medford, Oregon.

Preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Edwin, and a grandson, Shirley is survived by her seven children—John, Michael, Suzanne, Pat, Bill, James, and Chris—along with their spouses and partners, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
