Shirley Ann Scott

January 5, 1937 March 10, 2026

Denver, CO

Shirley Ann Scott, age 89, of Denver, Colorado, passed away peacefully at her home on March 10, 2026. Born on January 5, 1937, in Centralia, Kansas, to Clarence and Margaret (Fraser) Maelzer, she grew up on the family farm where she developed a deep appreciation for hard work, family, and the outdoors.

Shirley lived a full and active life, marked by her many talents and interests. An exceptional cook and seamstress, she found joy in golf, hiking, cross-country skiing, mahjong, hunting, fishing, painting, and gardening. She was deeply involved in her community, serving with the Aurora Art Club, on the Tyndall Green HOA Board, in Neighborhood Watch, and in a leadership role with the Havana Business Improvement District. A longtime member and board member of the Aurora Hills Ladies Golf League, she was also an avid traveler with her husband Bill. Together they were devoted supporters of the Colorado Symphony and shared a love of history and art, often exploring museums with her daughter and grandchildren. Above all, she cherished her family and took great delight in time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchild, who lovingly called her Gram and Great Gram.

She enjoyed a successful career as an administrative and executive secretary, retiring after 15 years with United Engineers and Constructors/Raytheon, where she also helped plan national conferences and served as a marketing and local media representative for the power division.

Shirley is survived by her daughter, Tracie (Scott) Larson of Lone Tree, Colorado; grandchildren Chelsie (Nathan) Di Paola of Santa Monica, California, and Derrick (Natalie) Rasser of Fort Collins, Colorado; and great-granddaughter Lina Di Paola. She is also survived by many extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Smith, her parents Clarence and Margaret Maelzer, and her sister Neva Funderburgh.
