Shirley Ann Denney

Shirley Ann Denney, 84, passed away peacefully at her home on March 10, 2026. She was born on April 26, 1941, to William and Mabel (Dickmeyer) Watson in the Indianapolis area.

Shirley grew up in Plainfield and graduated from Plainfield High School. In 1967 she married Paul R. Denney, beginning a life as a devoted military spouse who supported her husband through years of service while raising their family together. Paul preceded her in death in June 2011.

A loving and deeply devoted mother, Shirley cherished her three daughters and found immense joy in becoming a grandmother. She was known for her skill in the kitchen and took great pride in tending her flower and vegetable gardens. Throughout her life she found companionship in many beloved pets, always holding a special affection for West Highland Terriers.

She is survived by her daughters Debra Cate (Mike), Dolores Durrance (Red), and Paula Gilbert (Tim); her grandchildren Michael Cate (Ashley), Amy Doughtie (Adam), Matthew Cate (Maria), Ashly Rojas (Alaric), Michael Uhlig (Kasey), and Tyler Goodwin (Lindsey); and her great-grandchildren Brandon, Breeley, Piper, Perry, Ryan, Abigail, Madilyn, Emma, Ethan, Renea, Kalin, Raymond Michael, Maxwell, Lilah, Allister, and Evelynn. She is also survived by her loving dog Teagan. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Paul, and her sister Dolores White.
