Shirley Ann Catey

Shirley Ann Catey, a beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away on March 7, 2026, in Gladwin, Michigan, surrounded by her loving family. Born on January 31, 1938, in Sparta, Michigan, to Cecil L. and Viola L. (Bridges) Hughes, she graduated from Grand Ledge High School with the Class of 1957.

Shirley embraced the role of homemaker with warmth and generosity, devoting herself to nurturing and supporting her family. She found joy in reading, bowling, and her love of baseball, and she cherished the outdoors through deer hunting, salmon fishing on the Great Lakes, and searching for morel mushrooms. These pursuits brought her happiness, connection, and a sense of adventure.

She is survived by her devoted husband of sixty-three years, Thomas F. Catey, and their children, Timothy, Pamela (Greg Hejl), and James (Jennifer) Catey. She is also survived by her sisters, Gloria Joseph and Karen Hughes. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and siblings Cecil Hughes Jr., Herman Hughes, Roger Hughes, Berneice Dayton, and Marjorie Youngs.

Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew her, carried forward through the love and bonds she shared with her family.
