November 10, 1950— March 10, 2026
Winchester, IN
Sherry Lovell, 75, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Born on November 10, 1950, in Akron, Ohio, Sherry was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was defined by her devotion to her family, her commitment to serving others, and her adventurous spirit.
A proud graduate of Indiana University East, Sherry earned her Associate of Human Services degree and a certificate in drug and alcohol counseling. Her passion for helping others led her to several social service positions, where she made a lasting impact working with Head Start and the Dunn Center. For over a decade, she and her husband Steve were the creators and co-owners of Lovell's Advertising Plus, publishing the monthly Discover Treasures of Jay and Randolph Counties, which enjoyed a devoted following of readers. She was also a dedicated and familiar face in the community as the manager of the local Pizza Hut for many years.
Beyond her career, Sherry was an avid reader with a deep love for nature. Before her health declined, she was a passionate angler who, according to her own tales, always caught the biggest fish. She and Steve shared countless adventures in the great outdoors, finding joy in every journey, even when it meant getting lost together on a nature trail. In the late 1980s, she was a fixture in the band life at Winchester Community High School, serving as a band mom, helping with the chuck wagon, and cheering loudly from the sidelines. At home, she was a formidable Euchre player who took great pleasure in keeping meticulous score to ensure Steve always knew exactly who the winners were.
Sherry is survived by her devoted husband, Steve Lovell; her brother, Bruce Buckingham; and her sister-in-law, Karen Keen. Her legacy lives on through her children: Tracy Cox (Tom), D.J. Long (Jonna Nordloh), Troy Lovell (Marci), Jay Lovell (Melissa), Rita Sheridan, and Brian Lovell (Tammy); 13 grandchildren, Nick Cox (Kristiana), Mylon Cox (Whitney), Joshua Cox (Melissa), Zachery Cox (Hunter Coffey), Camren Long, Hunter Long (Marley), Lynee Weddell (Drew), T.J. Lovell, Alyssa Sheridan (Jarrod Ramos II), Isiah Sheridan (Autumn Jenkins), Levi Lovell (Mary), Hailey Lovell, and Lane Lovell; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Judy Buckingham; Betty Flynn; her brother, David Buckingham; her mother-in-law, Rita Pettinichio; sister-in-law, Kathy Skirvin; son-in-law, Jim Sheridan; a special friend, Diane Manson; and several aunts and uncles.
Sherry loved people and was loved in return by the many lives she touched in both her personal and professional life. She will be remembered for her hard work, her heart for service, and the deep, competitive, and adventurous love she held for her family.
