Las Cruces, NM

Sherry Lindsey was born on September 10, 1946, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Ruby and Reginald Lindsey. She was raised in both Montana and West Texas alongside her siblings, Billie and Troy Lindsey.

Sherry graduated from Cotton Center High School and went on to attend Baylor University and Texas Tech University, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education. She devoted 40 years of her life to teaching, touching the lives of countless students and colleagues with her kindness, dedication, and enthusiasm for learning. The majority of her career was spent as an elementary school teacher at Tombaugh Elementary School and Mesilla Park Elementary School.

Sherry shared 44 wonderful years of marriage with her husband, Rhett Putman. Together they built a loving family and raised two sons, Tyson Putman and Darby Lindsey. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Ruby Barrientos-Putman, Oliver Barrientos-Putman, Lola Barrientos-Putman, Charlotte Lindsey, and Lane Lindsey. She also cherished her daughter-in-love, Halee Nelson.

Sherry was blessed with many wonderful and supportive friends who kept her laughing throughout the years. Known affectionately as “the lady who lunched,” she treasured time spent sharing meals, stories, and laughter. Her greatest passion was storytelling, and she had a remarkable gift for bringing people together with warmth and humor. In her own words, she once said: “I was passionate about children, good food, friends, and laughter. Be optimistic and be happy.”

Her joyful spirit, generous heart, and love for family and friends will be remembered always by all who knew her.
