Sherry E. Smallwood, 78, of Columbus, Indiana, and formerly of North Vernon, passed away on March 8, 2026, at Silver Oaks Health Campus. Born on February 13, 1948, in Scottsburg, Sherry was the beloved daughter of Howard and Nina Aldridge. She married her partner in life, Robert Smallwood, on September 13, 1974, who sadly passed away at the end of 2023. Sherry found joy in being a homemaker, embracing family life with warmth and love.Sherry had a real knack for gardening and loved spending time outdoors, watching the birds and fishing whenever she could. Most importantly, she cherished the moments spent with her family, who meant the world to her.She is survived by her son, Kenneth Lakins, and his wife, Kim, of Scipio; her daughter, Melissa Redkey, and her husband, Mike, of North Vernon; and her sister, Kathy Anderson, along with her husband, Ralph, of Hebron, KY. Sherry also leaves behind Tammy Isaacs and husband Greg of McKee, KY, and Trena Redd of Connersville, as well as her grandchildren: Shane (Ashley) Lakins, K'lynn Smallwood, and Michael (Mica Vawter) Redkey, along with Tiffany (Austin Dooley) Redkey; great-grandchildren, Madisyn Lakins, Timothy Dooley, Ember Dooley, and Willoe Redkey. She will also be missed by her nieces and nephews, Christina Harper, Mike Anderson, Danny Anderson, and Becky Bowling.Sherry was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Smallwood; parents, Howard Kenneth and Nina Jane Aldridge; sister, Shiela Bowling; nephew, Paul Bowling.A graveside service to honor Sherry's life will be announced at a later date, and arrangements are being handled by Sawyer - Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. In her memory, the family requests that donations be made to the Muscatatuck Wildlife Refuge through the funeral home.Sherry will always be remembered for her love, kindness, and the joy she brought into the lives of those around her.
