Shelby Woodrow Wilson Whisnant, born on October 26, 1947, in Lawndale, North Carolina, passed away peacefully in Cleveland on March 9, 2026, at the age of 78. Known for his steadfast dedication, unwavering spirit, and infectious enthusiasm, Woodrow lived a life marked by loyalty, love, and resilience.

He worked as a machine operator at Smurfit-Stone, where his strong work ethic and commitment to excellence earned the respect of those around him. Whether in his professional duties or in his personal life, Woodrow consistently demonstrated integrity and diligence.

A passionate sports fan, he followed all sports with particular devotion to the L.A. Dodgers and the UNC Tar Heels. His loyal support remained constant through every season and outcome.

Woodrow was a faithful member of Zoar Baptist Church in Shelby, North Carolina, where his deep commitment to his faith and his active involvement in the church community reflected his lifelong values of love and fellowship.

For 55 years, he shared a loving marriage with his wife, Dianne. Together they built a family grounded in strength and affection. He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow W. Whisnant and Catherine Crowley Whisnant; his sisters, Margaret Whisnant and Elizabeth Ann Whisnant; his mother-in-law, Della M. Rainey; and his grandsons, James R. Whisnant and Alex T. Whisnant.

Woodrow is survived by his devoted wife, Dianne Whisnant (Rainey); his sons, Marcus L. Whisnant of Chicago, Illinois, and Lukus D. Whisnant of Aiken, South Carolina; his daughter, Sheila C. Whisnant of Jefferson, South Carolina; his sister, Susan W. Pritchard of Gastonia, North Carolina; and his grandchildren, Abigail Grace Whisnant of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Caleb James Hoyle and Riley Jacob Hoyle, both of Shelby, North Carolina. His legacy of kindness, dedication, and faith endures in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
