March 26, 1937 March 11, 2026

Dawson, GA

Shelba J. Holmes, 88, of Dawson, Georgia, passed away on March 11, 2026, at her home. Born on March 26, 1937, in Columbus, Georgia, she was the daughter of Clyde and Desma Paramore Cadenhead. A 1955 graduate of Baker High School in Columbus, Shelba later made her home in Atlanta, where she built a distinguished career in real estate. Known to all as smart, articulate, and spirited, she approached life with the determination of a true firecracker, pursuing her passions while caring deeply for the people and places she loved.

Her professional accomplishments reflected that same drive and commitment. She served as President of the Gwinnett Board of Realtors and as Regional Vice President for the Georgia Association of Realtors. She was named Gwinnett Realtor of the Year twice and received recognition from the Georgia Association of Realtors for her leadership and service to the profession.

After retiring, Shelba and her beloved husband, Donald E. Holmes, moved to Dawson, where they quickly embraced the town and the life they created together. She became an active member of the community, particularly supporting efforts to revitalize and beautify downtown Dawson. Throughout her life, her most cherished role remained that of devoted mother to her daughter, Kay Coleman (Rob).

Shelba was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Holmes; her parents, Clyde and Desma Paramore Cadenhead; and her sister, Donna Hollingsworth. She is survived by her daughter, Kay Coleman (Rob); her brother, Roger Cadenhead (Judy); several grandchildren and nieces; and her beloved cat, Pumpkin. She leaves behind a legacy of grace, service, determination, and a deep appreciation for community.
