Sheila Kay Bittle passed away at home surrounded by her family on March 11, 2026. Born on September 27, 1952, in Amarillo, Texas, to Doris Gayle Michener and Colonel Otis Thompson, she soon moved to Oklahoma. She attended school in Del City and college in Norman.
Sheila enjoyed a long career as a special education teacher before retiring. She was known for her dedication to her students and her quiet strength within her family.
She is survived by her husband, Ian Bittle, of the home; her daughter, Amanda Bittle, and son-in-law, John Rushton, of Norman; her son, Christopher Bittle, of Hennessey; her sister, Janet Johnson, and brother-in-law, Rick, of Arkansas; her sister-in-law, Cass Hobbs, and brother-in-law, Kim, of Hennessey; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.
The family expresses deep gratitude to Mercy Hospice for the compassionate care provided to Sheila during her final days. A memorial service will be held in the near future. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sea Turtle Conservation program at oceanicsociety.org.
