Sharon Roseann Rutherford Duckworth

b. April 14, 1948

Suwanee, GA

Sharon Roseann Rutherford Duckworth, 77, of Suwanee, Georgia, passed away peacefully at home on March 4, 2026. Born on April 14, 1948, in Bluefield, West Virginia, she graduated from Bluefield High School in 1965 and from Marshall University in 1968 with an Associate’s Degree. It was at Marshall that she met her husband, Lawrence Duckworth of Gassaway, West Virginia, beginning a loving partnership that would last a lifetime.

Sharon was a devoted wife who supported Lawrence through every endeavor, following him across the country and abroad—from West Virginia to Virginia, Holland, Ohio, Minnesota, Massachusetts, and finally Georgia. No matter where their journey led, she remained the steady source of stability, love, and warmth that turned each new place into a true home. A proud and loving mother of three, she raised her children with unwavering devotion, volunteering at their schools, opening her home to all, and offering quiet, thoughtful acts of care that made others feel genuinely valued.

She cherished her seven grandchildren—Caroline, Annabelle, Sam, Henry, Beau, Max, and John—and filled their lives with affection and gentle presence. Sharon also held a lifelong love for animals, especially cats, rescuing and caring for many over the years and giving them safe, loving homes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Carlton Rutherford and Elsie Lovell Rutherford of Bluefield, West Virginia. She is survived by her husband, Lawrence Dowe Duckworth; her children, Matthew Preston Duckworth and his daughter Caroline, Kristen Duckworth Parker and her husband Greg Parker and their children Annabelle, Sam, and Henry, and Benjamin Patrick Duckworth and his wife Katie Biebl Duckworth and their children Beau, Max, and John. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Diane Rutherford Law and her husband Chuck Law, and their daughters Kari Beth Law Alden and her husband Andrew Alden and their children Harper, Andrew, and Emery, and Megan Law Nicely and her husband Matthew Nicely and their children William, Nora, and Reid.
