Sharon J. Abbott

Sharon Jean Abbott (Edgington), age 82, passed away March 9, 2026, peacefully in her home, surrounded by the love of her family. She lived a life defined by curiosity, creativity, independence, and a deep appreciation for the beauty and wonder found in everyday moments.

A Doctor of Psychology, Sharon dedicated much of her professional life to serving others through her work with Guild South in South St. Paul, where she supported individuals living with mental illness. Her work was more than a career-it was a calling. Known for her thoughtful listening, insight, and compassion, Sharon helped countless people better understand themselves and the world around them. Even in her later years, she continued seeing clients in their homes, generously offering wisdom and guidance to those who sought it.

Above all, Sharon was a devoted mother who raised six children and carried immense pride in each of them. Her home was filled with energy, creativity, animals, music, and conversation, and she took great joy in watching her children grow into their own lives and families.

Sharon shared a joyful partnership with her late husband, Richard Abbott, with whom she spent many happy years. Together, they were known for their love of dancing-whether at a restaurant, a concert, or anywhere music could be found, Sharon and Richard were rarely ones to sit still.

A woman of remarkable creativity and determination, Sharon spent years lovingly restoring her 1905 Victorian-style home. With patience, skill, and every tool imaginable, she transformed the house into a true reflection of her imagination, craftsmanship, and personality.

Within that home, Sharon created traditions her family will treasure forever. She was famous for her haunted houses, which became a well known and loved community attraction, and for birthday celebrations that often ended in cake fights. Family gatherings were filled with karaoke, spirited card games, and pool tournaments that stretched late into the evening. Holidays held special meaning for Sharon, and her annual Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations gathered family around the table year after year.

Music was a lifelong passion. Sharon played the piano beautifully and found great joy in sharing that gift by teaching others to play.

Sharon’s approach to health reflected her independent spirit and lifelong curiosity. A devoted vegan and follower of Eastern medicine, she spent countless hours researching, learning, and experimenting-often caring for her own ailments and generously sharing her discoveries with others. Guests were frequently welcomed with an offer of a healthy concoction that was thoughtfully prepared, and sometimes a mystery until the first sip.

She also held a deep love for animals and the quiet rhythms of nature. Squirrels were frequent visitors to her yard, well-fed and welcomed, and her home was filled with her beloved pets, and carefully tended plants, some of which she nurtured for more than forty years. Each was a living reflection of her patience, care, and devotion.

Sharon is survived by her loving children: Mitzi Mohrbacher (Tim) of Shakopee, Jodi Ferris (Rick) of Faribault, Todd Ferris (Donna) of Faribault, Chad Ferris (Christina) of Faribault, Brad Ferris of Faribault, and Wayd Ferris (Erin) of Faribault; her stepchildren Sharon, Debby, and John Abbott of Chicago; and her many cherished grandchildren: Alisha, Niki, Rachel, Jonathan, Megan, Hanna, Zac, Chriztopher, Layah, Ethan, Kourtney, Madeline, Mac, Macy, Austin (Ashlyn), Alexis, Ava, and Asher. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren Athena, Bryce, Terrence, Braxton, Avery, and Archer.

She is further survived by her niece, Keri Benson (Charlie); nephew, Kelly Edgington (Nery); her loyal German Shepherd, Diana; and her beloved rabbits, Diamond, Romeo, and Ruby.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard Abbott; her former husband's Arnold “Arnie” Blomgren and John Ferris; her daughter Dori; her parents, Donald and Joan Edgington; her brother Bill Edgington; and several beloved pets who were dear companions throughout her life.

Sharon will be remembered as a remarkable woman-intelligent, creative, compassionate, and endlessly fascinating. She lived life on her own terms, filling it with music, laughter, imagination, and deep love for her family. The memories she created, the traditions she built, and the joy she brought into every room will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her.

Celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. at the Parker Kohl Funeral Home.
