October 23, 1936— March 10, 2026
Fremont, OH
Sharon Cahill, 89, of Fremont, passed away on March 10, 2026, in Fremont. Born on October 23, 1936, in Malinta, Ohio, to Lester and Leota (Rettig) Sickmiller, she graduated from Malinta Grelton High School in 1954. On August 6, 1968, she married Herb Cahill in West Virginia.
Sharon worked her way through Defiance College to earn her teaching certificate. She taught Spanish at Ottawa Glandorf and Fremont Ross High Schools and continued substituting at Ross for many years. Though her own high school years predated girls’ sports, she embraced athletics as an adult with remarkable enthusiasm. An avid bowler, she took pride in her 600 series. She taught Swimnastics at the Y, played tennis—holding a lifetime record of 400-1 against her son—along with racquetball and golf. She also found joy in spirited card games.
Above all, Sharon cherished watching her grandchildren compete in sports. She faithfully traveled to Big Ten and local high school events, cheering from the stands with unwavering support.
She is survived by her son, John (Lindi) Cahill of Clyde; granddaughters Amanda (Henry) Pwono of Sylvania, Caroline Cahill of Toledo, and Abigail Cahill of Chicago; grandson Jake of Clyde; and sisters Clara Eitzman of Edgerton and Martha Sickmiller of Fremont. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Herb, and her siblings Edwin, James, Arnold, Eldon, Lois Marie, and her twin sister Shirley.
