Graveside service for Sharon Akerhielm, age 75, of Sulphur Springs, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Tira Cemetery with Phillip Mathis officiating. There will be no formal visitation. Mrs. Akerhielm passed away at her residence on Sunday, March 15, 2026.
Sharon Akerhielm was born on December 24, 1950, in Dallas, Texas, to the late James Elgar and Cordie Joyce (Clay) White. She married Richard Akerhielm in Garland, Texas, on September 6, 1980. Sharon was employed at Western Electric, where she worked from 1971 to 1982 in quality review, contributing to the company’s commitment to high manufacturing standards. In 1996, she joined Texas Parks and Wildlife and served with dedication until 2012. During her tenure with the department, she served as Park Ranger III and was especially proud of her role as Lead Ranger for Cabin Management at Cooper Lake State Park, where she helped ensure a welcoming, well-maintained environment for visitors and their families.
Sharon Akerhielm is survived by her husband Richard Akerhielm; step-son, Andrew Akerhielm and wife Turrisa from Bedford, Texas; daughters, Tracie Akerhielm, and husband Jeff from Burleson Texas, Amy Akerhielm Smith from Birthright, Texas, and Mary Phillips, and husband Jon from Dike, Texas; grandchildren, Marissa Akerhielm from Bedford Texas, Allie, Emma, and Josie Smith from Birthright Texas, Emberly, and Avalyn Ball from Burleson, Texas, and Matti, Kenzie, and Cash Phillips from Dike, Texas; brothers, Larry White, and wife Donna from Tira, Texas, Jimmy White, and wife Debbie from Sulphur Bluff, Texas, Bobby White from Tira, Texas; and sister, Paula Jones from Miller Grove, Texas.
She was preceded in death by parents; sister, Donna Joslin; and brother, Ronny White.
