SERGEANT THOMAS WILL LEWIS was born April 14, 1951 in Gainesville, Alabama to the late Richard Gee and Sallie Lewis. He transitioned to the will of God on February 28, 2026 at 11:43 p.m. at his York, Alabama residence surrounded by loving family. Service of Remembrance and Life Celebration is slated for Wednesday, March 11, 2026 at 12:00 noon from New Bethel Baptist Church, 222 New Bethel Road, Gainesville. Rev. Frank Rogers is church pastor with Rev. Glenn Harris delivering the eulogy, offering words of comfort and consolation. Interment to follow in New Bethel Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends is scheduled Tuesday, March 10, 2026 from 3-6:00 p.m. in the Weatherly Funeral Home Chapel. On Wednesday morning at 11:20 the processional leaves the funeral home driveway with Full Police Escort to New Bethel.
Thomas confessed his faith in Christ at a young age when he joined the New Bethel Baptist Church, Gainesville, Alabama under the pastorate of the late Rev. Mose Wimbley. He graduated from Livingston High School in 1971. Later in life he was employed with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Department for nineteen (19) years from 1996 through 2014 and retired from the Livingston Police Department, earning the rank of Sergeant, starting in 2014 and ending his employment in February of 2021.
Thomas was predeceased by his parents, his brother and his wife, Samuel and Lula M. Lewis; an Uncle Bob Lewis; Aunt, Mamie Ellington, brother-in-law Isaac Hatcher and his sister, Dorothy Powell
Those who are left to cherish precious memories are: his loving wife, Antoinette Brown Lewis, who held his hand through it all; devoted daughter Yolanda L. Lewis of Washington, D.C; devoted son, Travaris Gholston of Atlanta, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Shankitta (Jarrett) Barnes of Mobile, AL; granddaughters; Summer and Honor Gholston, both of Atlanta, GA; his brother and wife Howard (Tabrena) Johnson of Calera, AL; sister, Ella Mae Hatcher, Bessemer, AL; his mother and father-in-law, Leonard and Bobbie Brown, York, AL; brother and sister-in-law, Leonard (Terra) Brown of Hueytown, AL; brother-in-law, Marcus Brown of York, AL; sister and brother-in-law, Sherry (Kelvin) Long, York, Al; brother-in-law, Joseph Powell, Hartford, CT; a close friend James Moore; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and associates who loved him dearly and whom he also loved. Truly Thomas will be missed!
