Passed March 10, 2026

Alexandria, MN

Selma S. Hendrickson, age 91, formerly of Owatonna, passed away on March 10, 2026, at Windmill Ponds Assisted Living Community in Alexandria. Born on August 5, 1934, in Waterville, Minnesota, to Emil and Ruth (Hagel) Labs, Selma grew up in Waterville and graduated from Waterville High School. In 1954, she married Gordon Wanous at Sacred Heart Church in Waseca. The couple made their home in Owatonna, where they raised their three children. After Gordon’s death in 1971, Selma married Eugene Hendrickson on April 4, 1975. They shared 46 years together in Owatonna before Gene passed away in August 2021. Selma moved to Alexandria in May 2022.

Selma lived a simple, quiet life centered on her home and family. She found great joy in tending her flowers and expansive vegetable garden, and she was known as an excellent cook who took pride in preparing meals for her loved ones and canning the produce she grew. She cherished her coffee, garage sales, time spent visiting with family and friends, and peaceful days fishing. A lifelong lover of animals, especially cats, she delighted in caring for any that crossed her path.

She is survived by her children Cindy Wanous Kubicek (Mark), Mark Wanous, and Lori Wanous Triebenbach (Bruce); grandchildren Arianne (Haugland) Pyke, Al Haugland (Kim), Alex Haugland, Amanda Seha (Jeremy), and Zachary Wanous; nine great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Lillian Wanous and Pat Labs; brother-in-law Leroy Rockman; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved cat Mia. Selma was preceded in death by her husbands Gordon and Eugene; her parents; sisters Elizabeth (Duane) Volk, Ruth (Gene) Glende, Shirley (Leroy) Rockman, and Lillian Labs in childhood; brothers Donald Labs, Martin (Doris) Labs, Fred (Lorraine) Labs, Bernard (Pat) Labs, Emil and Clarence Labs in infancy; daughter-in-law Lori (Stoen) Wanous; and son-in-law Albert Haugland.
