March 19, 1950— March 13, 2026
Salt Lake City, UT
Scott Whitaker Royall, born March 19, 1950, in Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on March 13, 2026, surrounded by his family after courageously battling ALS for nearly three years.
The son of Robert and Carolyn Royall, Scott was raised with a strong foundation of faith, obedience, and hard work. A lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he served a mission in Northern California as a young man and remained a faithful follower of Christ throughout his life. His faith deeply shaped the way he lived and the manner in which he raised his family, teaching his children to love the Savior and guiding them with principles and values that continue to direct their lives.
Raised on James Island near Charleston, Scott grew up on the water, an experience that nurtured passions that remained with him always. He was a lifelong lover of the ocean and found great joy in boating, sailing, and skiing. He passed this appreciation on to each of his children, patiently teaching them to become skippers, mechanics, and carpenters. An exceptional craftsman and mechanic who could build or repair almost anything, Scott found particular fulfillment in restoring his airplane and pursuing his love of aviation as a pilot. Few things brought him more happiness than spending time at his hangar working on his beloved Mooney Mite.
Scott’s ideal days were spent working on projects at the hangar and returning home to be surrounded by family. He cherished time with his grandchildren, though he was known to gently request a reduction in the noise level. He had a remarkable gift with babies and was affectionately called the “baby whisperer” by his family and ward, able to calm even the most distressed infant with ease. He also enjoyed simple pleasures such as a bowl of ice cream while watching the Discovery Channel.
He is survived by his loving wife, Cindy Royall, and their four children: Brock Royall (Jenna), Blake Royall (Amy Jo), Cameron Royall (Lindie), and Rebecca Grider (Spencer). Scott was the proud grandfather of fourteen grandchildren, with one more on the way. His life was defined by his faith, his deep love for his family, and the many things he built, repaired, and passed down. The lessons he taught about faith, hard work, craftsmanship, and family love will continue through his children and grandchildren. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in the knowledge that through the Savior and the promises of the gospel, families can be together forever.
