Scott Giertuga

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Scott Giertuga, a husband, father, son, brother, and friend. He dedicated his life to serving others as a Cook County police officer and will be remembered for his commitment to his community and the respect he earned from those who worked alongside him.

Outside of his work, Scott loved spending time on his bike and being outdoors, something that brought him both joy and a sense of freedom. His enthusiasm for biking and the outdoors is something many who knew him will remember fondly.

He is survived by his wife, Emily (Benko); their 16-year-old twins, Ella and James; and his stepson, Robbie Georgias, 19, who is currently away at college. He is also survived by his parents, Michael and Elizabeth Giertuga; his sister, Kristina “Tina” and brother-in-law Lee Skeens; and his brother, Michael Giertuga and sister-in-law Heather Giertuga. He is also survived by his in-laws, Alice and James Benko, along with many extended family members, friends, and colleagues.
