Martinsville, IN

Scott Edward Pettit, 49, a lifelong resident of Martinsville, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at The Gathering Together Hospice in Plainfield, Indiana, surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on May 3, 1976, in Indianapolis to Edward Lee Pettit and the late Pamela J. (Jennings) Pettit, Scott graduated from Martinsville High School with the Class of 1994. He went on to attend Wyotech in Wyoming, earning his degree as an Automotive Technician in 1995. He began his career at Ray Skillman in Greenwood before joining Community Ford in Mooresville in 1997. Over nearly 29 years with the company, he advanced to Shop Foreman and became a Ford Senior Master Certified Technician. Known as a mentor, educator, and role model, he built deep friendships and a strong work family that meant the world to him.

Scott was a devoted husband, father, and family man. He married Brandy Jean (Collins) Pettit on June 29, 2002. He took immense pride in his children, proudly attending every activity and event. As a Scout leader for his sons, Zachary and Elijah, he shared countless camping trips, hikes, and built derby cars with them. He was deeply involved in his youngest son’s wrestling journey, traveling across state lines for tournaments. With his daughters, Sophia and Allison, he never missed a father-daughter dance, dressing up for every theme, and became their biggest supporter during 14 years with Elite Dance, driving thousands of miles to competitions and “dance-cations.” He also cherished his special bonus daughter, Karley Freese.

Scott loved the outdoors, finding joy in fishing, golfing, boating, camping, and hunting. He took great pride in restoring his 1967 Camaro—a high school graduation gift—with his father, Edward, creating lasting memories as they attended car shows and won awards together. His favorite holiday was Father’s Day, when he hosted large family gatherings and proudly served as “Master of the Meats,” sharing his grilling and smoking expertise.

He is survived by his wife, Brandy Jean Pettit of Martinsville; sons Zachary and Elijah Pettit of Martinsville; daughters Sophia Pettit of Speedway, Allison Pettit of Martinsville, and bonus daughter Karley Freese of Martinsville; his father, Edward Lee Pettit of Martinsville; sister Missy Pettit (Jamie Summers) of Martinsville; half-sister Carmen Bennett of Tennessee; father-in-law Don Collins of Paragon; brother-in-law Donnie Collins (April Collins) of Paragon; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and dear friends, including Tyson and Destiny Fleener of Martinsville.
