Sarah Ruth Corn Godwin was born on June 19, 1944, and passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, at the age of 81 after a brief illness.
She shared a cherished marriage with her husband, Chris Godwin, whom she married on May 16, 1970. Together they built a loving family and were devoted partners for 38 years until his passing. Sarah was also preceded in death by her son, Christopher Godwin; her parents, Pinkney Valentine “PV” and Ethel Leverette Corn; her sisters, Christine McCrary and Lola Love; and her brothers, Wayne and Lonnie Corn.
Sarah is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Cheryl Godwin Sanders and husband Richard; her daughter, Sherry Williams; and her son, Jody Godwin and wife Beth. She is also survived by her brother, Ray Corn; nine grandchildren, Courtney, Colby, Jessica, Blane, Josh, Kayla, Alexis, Lauren, and Leah; and six great-grandchildren.
Raised in Hendersonville, Sarah graduated from Hendersonville High School and built a career defined by hard work and lasting friendships at Ruth Originals, Ball Glass, Steelcase, and Parts Unlimited. A longtime member of the First Church of the Nazarene, she later moved to Burlington’s Alamance House Assisted Living, where her caring spirit, distinctive whistle, and readiness to help others left a deep impression on everyone she met. Above all, she was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who found her greatest joy in time spent with her family.
