Sarah L. Brock

February 20, 1934 March 9, 2026

West Columbia, SC

Sarah Brock, born in Chesterfield, South Carolina, was the youngest of eleven children and the last surviving child of Will and Annie Rivers. She lived a remarkable 92 years, carrying with her a deep sense of family, faith, and love that she nurtured throughout her life. She passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family.

Sarah shared more than 62 adventurous years of marriage with her beloved husband, William Gardner Brock. Together they built a life rooted in love, joy, and service, settling in West Columbia, South Carolina, where they raised their family. Her greatest pride and joy was her family, and her love touched each generation.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, devoted husband, and grandsons Tom and Nick.

Sarah is survived by her three children, Ron Brock (wife Linda), Tom Brock, and Tammy Lundy (husband Terry); daughters-in-love Ellen Brock and Tory Heron; grandchildren Richard Brock, Pharm.D. (wife Susan), Jonathan Brock, M.D. (wife Mary Catherine), Dawn Pokorney (husband Toby), and Colby Brock; great-grandchildren Will and Hope Brock, Toby, Ruby, Scarlett and Penelope Brock, Samara, Ivy and Maggie Pokorney; and beloved great-niece Katie Rivers Glasser. She also leaves behind a wide circle of dearly loved nieces and nephews.

A woman of deep compassion and boundless generosity, Sarah found joy in traveling, camping, cooking, and spending time with family. She visited all 50 states and several countries, often carrying biscuit flour and canned ham for mission trips. Her giving spirit was evident in her work in the George I. Pair Elementary School cafeteria, in serving hundreds of Wednesday night church meals, and in volunteering in numerous ministries at West Side Baptist Church.

Most of all, Sarah’s warmth was felt in her kitchen, the heart of the home, where family and friends were always welcomed and never left hungry. Her red velvet cakes, whipping cream pound cakes, and homemade cookies were expressions of the deep care she held for those around her. Her legacy of love, service, and family will live on in everyone she touched. She showed remarkable strength and determination, blessing her family with precious time and memories they will cherish forever. She will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
