Sarah Jane Listenberger, born Oct. 21, 1955, in Plymouth, Indiana, passed away held in the hearts of those who loved her. She was the daughter of Robert Ervin and Rosemary Jones Listenberger, both of whom preceded her in death. Sarah graduated from Plymouth High School with the Class of 1974 and continued her education at Vincennes University. She was known for her warm heart, her lively and engaging conversations, and her deep affection for family pets. Animals were drawn to her gentle nature, and she cared for them with a tenderness that reflected her generous spirit. At the age of 22, Sarah began living with paranoid schizophrenia, a condition that brought challenges but never diminished the kindness, humor, and warmth that defined her. Her family remained devoted throughout her journey, honoring her strength and cherishing the moments that revealed her true, loving self. In her final years, Sarah's life was enriched by the compassionate community at Pilgrim Manor. The staff's kindness, patience, and attentive care brought comfort, stability, and moments of genuine joy to her days. Her family is deeply grateful for the warmth and dignity shown to her there. She is survived by her siblings-Steven J. Listenberger (Jan Wagoner), Mary Beth Listenberger, and Robert W. Listenberger-all of whom reside in Plymouth, Indiana, and who will forever treasure her laughter, her stories, and the love she shared so freely. Sarah is also survived by five nieces-Jennifer Hammons (Ryan), Melissa Smith (Matt), Sidney Hartung (Joel), Emily Listenberger, and Celia Listenberger-along with three greatnieces and five greatnephews, all of whom also live in Plymouth, Indiana. Each of them brought a tremendous amount of joy to Sarah's life, and their visits, milestones, and affection were among her greatest delights. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 21, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the First United Church of Christ in Plymouth, Indiana. A service of remembrance will follow, honoring Sarah's life and the love she shared. Afterward, family and friends are invited to stay for a luncheon and continue sharing memories together. A private burial will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marshall County Humane Society, a fitting tribute to Sarah's lifelong love of animals and the comfort they brought her.Sarah's legacy lives on in the compassion she offered, the conversations she sparked, and the gentle presence she brought into the lives of others. Palmer Funeral Home – Plymouth Chapel has been entrusted with the care of Sarah.
