Sarah Hall Farnworth

Sarah Hall Farnworth

Moscow, ID

Sarah Hall Farnworth was born on 17 September 1947 in Wendell, Idaho, the tenth child of Ira Kimball Hall and Alice Abigail Ottley Hall. Raised in a rural farming family, she found joy in gathering pine nuts from pinyon pines, playing marbles, and reading poetry. She shared a deep, lifelong bond with her older sister Julia, living with her in California during eighth grade and again as a high school junior—an experience that delighted the small-town farm girl with the wonders of city life. In 1965, she graduated as valedictorian of her class of eighteen in Mackay, Idaho.

Her time at the University of Idaho opened new horizons. Voted campus sweetheart by church Institute students in 1966, she dreamed of becoming an archaeologist or interior designer. She met Lynn during the summer of 1967, and after a brief courtship they were married on 1 December 1967 in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together, Sarah and Lynn raised five daughters and a grandson in Moscow, Idaho. She devoted her life to her family, teaching them to cook, garden, sew, and to cherish reading, history, and travel. She treasured every opportunity to gather with family and loved each member with fierce, unconditional devotion, modeling patience, forgiveness, and abiding love.

Sarah passed away on 28 February 2026 in Spokane, Washington, from complications associated with heart failure. She is survived by two brothers, five devoted daughters, four sons-in-law, seventeen grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren. Though she expressed sadness at not having met two of her great-grandchildren, her family will share with them her profound love, her devotion to her Savior Jesus Christ, and her unshakeable faith in their eternal bond.

For seventy-eight years she lived in quiet service to others. She was the heart of her family, the one who kept them connected. Her children will carry her influence always, remembering her with gratitude and love.
