Sandy Adair Gilley passed away on March 14, 2026. Born on September 24, 1947, in Stamford, Texas, he was a lifelong resident of Stonewall County. A devoted husband, father, and grandad, Sandy built a legacy rooted in his love for family, community, and the land he worked.
He graduated from Aspermont High School in 1966 and spent his life farming and ranching, tending his cattle with care and pride. Sandy was an avid hunter and fisherman, famous for his entertaining “fish stories,” and he took special delight in trapping and hunting rattlesnakes. He also cherished gathering with family and friends for lively games of forty-two dominoes.
Sandy married Vicki LaRue Abernathy on May 25, 1979, and they shared 47 years of marriage filled with joy. He is survived by his wife, Vicki; his son, Shane Gilley (Sharon); daughter, Dede Scifres; son, Jason Gilley (Misty); and daughter, Jennifer Graham. His cherished grandchildren are Kenzie Gilchrist, Cash Gilley, Katelyn Flores (Lloyd), Colby Gilley, Blaynee Gambill (Dylan), Brecken Gilley, Zoey Gilley, and Lexie Cooper. He was also blessed with three great-grandchildren, Jace Gambill, Kash Gambill, and Elyse Flores, and his two beloved dogs, Art and Ryder. Sandy shared countless adventures with his best friend and hunting partner, Dave Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Ray and Addie Pearl (Adair) Gilley, and his sister, Linda Pack. Sandy will be remembered for his vibrant personality, warm humor, and deep love for those around him. His commitment to family and his zest for life remain a lasting part of the legacy he leaves behind.
